Children (5–11 years) and teenagers (12 years +) are invited to join us in Adelaide for a fun-filled event to connect with others who understand what life with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is like!
Important info for parents & carers
Registrations are required. We ask that children who haven’t been registered do not attend the event.
Parents and carers are asked to drop their children in the dedicated child/teen zone and then attend the parent sessions. The child/teen zone will be staffed by diabetes educators, Breakthrough T1D staff and volunteers who have all completed a Working With Children check. Parents and carers will meet with their children in the break and at lunchtime.
Registration is currently only open to kids and teens who live with T1D themselves. If you’d like other siblings to attend, please tick the corresponding box on the form; if there are any extra spots available for siblings later we’ll let you know.
Register kids and teens here. (The questions on page 1 are about the accompanying adult.)Â
If you have any questions, please get in touch.
Morning session
All kids and teens will participate in our first session of the day.
9am – 10.30am // What is your Everest?
Breakthrough T1D staff and volunteers will facilitate ice breaking activities so the kids and teens can get to know each other, starting to build friendships that will grow throughout the day.
The ambassadors will then share their T1D stories and speak about the amazing things they’ve achieved. This will also include a Q&A session.
The kids and teens will then share their own big goals – their “Everests”. T1D won’t hold them back from achieving them!
10.30am – 10.55am // Morning break
Midday session & lunch
Our kids and teens will split into age groups for the next session of the day, with lunch to follow.
10.55am – 11.45am // Kids activity: Bonkers with bubbles
10.55am – 11.45am // Teen activity: The juggling balancing act
11.45am – 12.30pm // Lunch
Afternoon session
The afternoon session will again see kids and teens separated into age groups for fun activities with new friends.
12.30pm – 2.05pm // Kids activity: The juggling balancing act
12.30pm – 2.05pm // Teens activity: Amazing Race
It’s team against team as our teen participants race against the clock – and each other – to win our very own Amazing Race!
Accompanied by designated adult volunteers, each team will face a series of fun challenges to test problem solving, communication and team work to reach the next check point.
(Outdoor event – weather permitting.)
