Parents and carers are invited to attend our helpful sessions on raising a child or teen with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
This year, you can attend in person at our beautiful Adelaide venue, or tune in online from anywhere in Australia, on Sunday 26 July. Our carefully curated sessions offer something for every family, whether you’re new to T1D life or it’s been with you for years.
All sessions for parents and carers start from 9am Australian Central Standard Time (ACST). See what time that is in your state or territory.
Register to join us online or in Adelaide – and yes, it’s all completely free! If you’re joining us in Adelaide, be sure to check out our program for kids and teens who can attend in person, too.

9am – 10.30am ACST // Building confidence and resilience: Practical tips for raising kids and teens with T1D
Raising a kid or teen with T1D comes with its own unique challenges that can be difficult to navigate alone.
In this session, facilitated by Melanie Cullen, Breakthrough T1D’s mental health lead, you’ll hear from a panel of parents and carers in different stages of their T1D journeys.
From navigating the daily highs and lows of life with T1D to supporting your child in building emotional resilience and confidence in their diabetes care, this discussion will share helpful strategies, lived experiences, and lessons learned along the way.
Whether your child has been newly diagnosed, or is becoming more independent, this session aims to equip families with practical advice from parents who have been in your shoes.
10.30am – 10.55am ACST // Morning break
10.55am – 11.45am ACST // Making your T1D technology work for your family: practical tips for parents & carers
Are you thinking about switching to diabetes technology? Or maybe you just want to get more out of your child’s current system? You’re not alone.
Insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) – together called automated insulin delivery (AID) systems – are the gold standard of insulin delivery.
Join us for an insightful panel discussion to hear firsthand from families living with T1D who use a range of AID systems in their everyday lives.
This session will explore what it’s like to use an AID system, how to find the right technology for your child’s lifestyle and goals, and offer practical tips on getting the most out of your devices.
